RTX 5090 owner says PNY rejected his melted-connector warranty claim

A Reddit user claims PNY refused to cover his burned RTX 5090 because he used the power supply's own 12V-2x6 cable.

Melting power connectors on the GeForce RTX 5090 are back in the headlines, this time with a warranty twist. A Reddit user says PNY turned down his claim after his card died and then closed his support ticket without explaining why.

According to his account, the 12V-2x6 cable melted at both ends, at the graphics card and at the power supply. He says the card was running at stock clocks with a reduced power limit and was sitting idle when it failed. The cable wasn't a cheap adapter either: it shipped with his ASRock PG-1600G PSU.

PNY's reply reportedly said only PNY-approved cables or adapters are covered, and that damage caused by third-party or PSU cables is the responsibility of those makers. The owner says neither PNY's warranty document nor its install guide mentions approved cables or the 12V-2x6 standard, and when he asked twice which clause applied, a senior technician called the decision final.

Connector failures have followed the RTX 5090 since launch, and independent tests have linked some cases to uneven current across the connector's pins rather than any particular cable brand. PNY hasn't commented publicly, and the story currently rests on the customer's word, so treat it with some caution.
